Key
West Kenny
Today's Sportsmans Adventures takes us back to Key West! One of our favorite
Florida fishing holes and perhaps, the finest fishing destination in the entire
United States. Capt. Rick Murphy has been to the southernmost city countless times...
sailfish, wahoo, grouper, snapper... We've always had great adventures here! Our
special guest for today's adventure is Key West's Capt. Kenny Harris. Capt. Kenny
specializes in catching big fish on light tackle from high performance center
console boats.
Mosquito
Reds
Today's adventure takes us to one of the last unspoiled areas on Florida's
east coast. Lying just within the boundaries of the Cape Canaveral Seashore and
the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, it's called Mosquito Lagoon... and we're here
on a cold and windy March day. Capt. Rick Murphy and special guest Mark Sepe will
brave the weather and chase the giant schools of redfish which have made these
waters famous!
Ocean
Reef Sails
Today's Sportsman's Adventure takes us fishing offshore on Florida's southeast
coast. This area has a reputation as one the top ten destinations in the world
for catching and releasing wintertime sailfish. Capt. Rick Murphy and his special
guest, Capt. Danny Varnadore will spend a cold south Florida day chasing the schools
of sailfish that migrate through these waters each winter.
Everglades National Park
- Super Tarpon, Shark & Snook
On
today's Sportsman's Adventures, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Everglades
National Park and begin a special 3 part series featuring this national treasure...
truly Florida's last frontier. The Everglades is a geographical region unique
unto itself. Covering some 10,000 square miles at the southern tip of the state
of Florida, it is a virtually uninhabited stretch of tropical jungle and watery
wilderness. Joining Capt. Rick Murphy is Everglades National Park Superintendent
Dan Kimball. Together they will explore the beauty of the Park as well as sample
some of the awesome light tackle fishing you can only find here...
Everglades National
Park - Hell's Bay
On
today's Sportsmans Adventures, we feature part 2 of our special series honoring
the 60th anniversary of Everglades National Park. On part 1 of our series we featured
Park superintendent Dan Kimball. Rick and Dan spent the day enjoying the Park
as well enjoying some super fishing. Today's adventure features Capt. Rick Murphy
and Capt. Eric Herstedt winding their way thru the twisting and turning maze of
rivers and creeks that flow down from the heart of the Florida Everglades. It's
called Hells Bay. It's the Everglades last great wilderness area. Hundreds of
shallow, quiet bays, twisting mangrove lined creeks and wide rivers. Once you're
in... the fishing can be incredible.
Everglades National
Park - Groupers
On
today's Sportsman's Adventures, we continue our special commemoration of the Everglades
National Park on her 60th birthday. President Harry Truman proclaimed this land
on Florida's southernmost point, one of nature's most awesome achievements. The
"mother" of the Everglades, Marjory Stoneman Douglas called this ecological
miracle, the river of grass... and indeed it does have numerous grassy rivers
and prairies that feed down from Florida's largest lake, Okeechobee. On part one
of our special Everglades series, we featured fishing with Park superintendent
Dan Kimball.
Peacock
Bass
Today's Sportsman's Adventures takes us to the Peacock Bass fishing capitol
of the world... No... It's not South America's Amazon River, believe it or not
it's right here in South Florida. Neighborhood lakes and canals are where these
fish call home and that's where Capt. Rick puts on this peacock – catching
clinic.
Costa Del Mar - Reds & Snook
On
Today's Sportsmans Adventures, Capt. Rick Murphy and our special guest Costa Del
Mar's, Chas Macdonald, have traveled to Florida's' famed treasure coast to meet
Capt. Mike Holliday for some spring time snook fishing. Mike is the editor of
The Florida Fishing Weekly, a state wide fishing magazine and when he's not at
his computer filing fishing stories, you can bet he's out on the water. And don't
be fooled by this spectacular sunrise... it's actually a cool and windy day in
May... the kind of day when some guys might just stay home... but guys like Mike,
well... he has a game plan.
Sarasota - Snappers & Groupers
On
today's Sportsmans Adventures, Capt. Rick Murphy travels to Sarasota on Florida's
west coast to meet up with Capt. Chris Seger for a day of offshore fishing . It's
the middle of June, and along with the warm weather that heats up these Gulf Waters,
comes snapper, grouper and a variety of other gamefish that roam these deep offshore
reefs. It can be a long run to the fishing grounds but this comfortable Contender
makes it a smooth and easy trip. Capt. Chris is a Sarasota native that specializes
in the offshore bite. He's been professionally guiding anglers for more than 15
years, and today its Capt. Rick's turn to take a turn on the rod.
Jimbo Tarpon
Today's
Sportsmans Adventure takes us to one of our favorite fishing holes - Flamingo
- on the very southern tip of the Florida peninsula. Capt. Rick's special guests
are brothers Jimbo and Rick Thomas. These two top notch fishermen are a little
out of their element today... you see... they run the offshore charter boat "Thomas
Flyer" out of Miami's famous Bayside Marina. Sailfish and dolphin are their
usual targets, but today, it's going to be some shallow water backcountry action...
will they be able to adapt?
Bonita
Springs - Reds & Snook
One of the great things about fishing on Florida's southwest coast is that
you don't have to travel far to find great top water action. Capt. Kevin Merritt
from Bonita Springs, and Capt. Andrew Bostic from Naples are our guides... and
Southwest Florida is the place... Join as we target redfish and snook for exciting
top water thrills on Florida's Southwest coast.
Vintage
IGFA Films
Have you ever seen the historic footage of Alfred Glassel's world record Black
Marlin? Think about the movie "The Old Man and the Sea"... How about
classic films of Bahamas billfishing or swordfishing with big game fishing pioneer
Michael Lerner? Today's adventure will take us to the International Game Fish
Association and back in time to view some of the greatest treasures the museum
has to offer.
